The purpose of carrying out an air sampling exercise is to measure the exposure of individuals through inhalation to airborne substances such as dusts and vapours.
The COSHH Regulations require an assessment to be carried out to determine the risks presented to employees from exposure to these substances. The air sampling exercise will form part of this assessment.
For many substances the Health and Safety Executive have assigned a Workplace Exposure Limit, showing the maximum acceptable level of exposure. The results of the air sampling exercise will show whether this limit is reached.
The report presented will include recommendations on control measures available to reduce exposure levels, as well as full details of the samples taken and the results obtained.
